L’écrivain avait découvert ce village et déclara célèbrement. « J’ai cessé de me désirer ailleurs. La correspondance évoque des préoccupations personnelles et amicales, ainsi que des nouvelles de santé et de déplacements, dans un ton intime caractéristique des échanges entre membres du cercle surréaliste. Le texte est adressé à Jean Schuster, critique, écrivain et acteur majeur du surréalisme d’après-guerre, qui devint l’un des principaux continuateurs du mouvement après la disparition de Breton en 1966. L’ensemble comprend également l’enveloppe d’expédition, adressée à l’hôtel où séjournait Schuster à Forremolinos, en Espagne, avec timbres et cachets postaux. The postcard, depicting the famous village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, was written during Breton’s stay in this place to which he remained deeply attached. Breton had discovered the village earlier and famously declared. I have stopped wishing myself elsewhere. The correspondence refers to personal and friendly matters, including news about health and travels, written in the intimate tone characteristic of exchanges within the Surrealist circle. The message is addressed to Jean Schuster, critic, writer, and key figure of postwar Surrealism, who later became one of the principal continuators of the movement after Breton’s death in 1966.
